Spring 2015 Digital Health Award

Our 2015 NC Prevention Report Card was honored with a Spring 2015 Bronze Digital Health Award in the Directory / Ratings / Guides category. A panel of 39 experts in digital health media served as judges and selected gold, silver, bronze, and merit winners from nearly 600 entries.

Antioch College Arthur Morgan Award

Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH, has honored Prevention Partners Senior Advisor Melva Fager Okun with its Arthur Morgan Award for support and service to the community. Okun, a 1969 graduate of Antioch, earned the award primarily for her work with Prevention Partners, where she has worked since 2002. Okun led the effort to make North Carolina the only state to date where all of its acute care hospitals – 130 of them — have tobacco-free campuses.

Web Health Awards

School Health Connection, one of our online mapping tools, was honored with a 2013 Web Health Award, recognizing the nation’s best digital health resources. NC School Health Connection was chosen from nearly 600 entries and received a Merit Award in the Web-based Resource/Tool category.

Distinguished Service Award, NC Public Health Association: Melva Fager Okun

The North Carolina Public Health Association honored Dr. Melva Fager Okun, Senior Advisor at Prevention Partners, with its 2013 Distinguished Service Award to honor her significant contributions to public health in North Carolina. Dr. Okun has advanced public health issues that span the environment, tobacco control and policy leadership. Her work has also been recognized by the Joint Commission, the Centers for Disease Control, the American Legacy Foundation, and Partnership for Prevention.

Healthy Living Innovations Award

We received a Healthy Living Innovations Award from the Department of Health and Human Services in 2011 for Healthy NC Hospitals: Red Apple Project. Funded by the Duke Endowment in partnership with the NC Hospital Association, the Red Apple Project assisted all acute-care hospitals in North Carolina with overhauling their food environments.

Business Leader’s Movers & Shakers: Meg Molloy

Prevention Partners President and CEO Meg Molloy received the Movers & Shakers Award, which honors up-and-coming business leaders in the Triangle community. Nominees must be either rising leaders within companies with more than 100 employees or C-level executives leading rising companies with fewer than 100 employees. The 2009 Movers & Shakers were chosen from a record number of nominations.

Business Leader Media’s Healthiest Companies

Healthiest Company honorees have made significant investments in the corporate wellness of its employees. (Awarded July 2009)

Outstanding Fundraising Professional

Beverly Biggs, former vice president of development and marketing, received the Outstanding Fundraising Professional Award from the Triangle Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals for her more than 25 years dedicated to raising funds for community organizations. (Awarded in November 2008)

Hermes Creative Awards

Prevention Partners won two Hermes Creative Awards in recognition of outstanding marketing and communication tools. We won a Platinum Award, the highest honor, for our 2008 Prevention Report Card and a Gold Award for our Starting the Conversation tools to help providers talk with their patients about how to stop using tobacco, eat healthier and better manage blood pressure and cholesterol. (Awarded in May 2008)

Triangle Health Care Heroes

Dr. Melva Fager Okun (at left, in photo), then director of our Tobacco-Free Hospital Initiative, was named a Health Care Hero by the Triangle Business Journal in 2008. Okun led more than 100 acute- care hospital campuses establish 100% tobacco-free policies.

Goodmon Award for Regional Leadership

Prevention Partners was one of six recipients of the Goodmon Award from Leadership Triangle for regional leadership in action. (Awarded in December 2007)

NC Center for Nonprofits Stewardship Award

Prevention Partners was recognized by the NC Center for Nonprofits for responsible and transparent use of funds and forwarding our mission to improve the public’s health by focusing on prevention. NCPP was one of three organizations chosen from more than 1,500 nonprofit groups across the state. (Awarded in October 2007)

Health and Wellness Trust Fund Power of Prevention Award

Prevention Partners' CEO Meg Molloy was given the Health and Wellness Trust Fund’s Power of Prevention award in the Community Catalyst category, honoring North Carolina individuals who take innovative measures to promote healthy lifestyles and increase access to health care, and address chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart disease. (Awarded in May 2007)

North Carolina Alliance for Healthy Communities – 2004

Each year, the NCAHC recognizes an individual and/or an organization/employer that has demonstrated compelling vision, leadership and excellence in their commitment to improving health outcomes in North Carolina communities. In 2004, NC Prevention Partners was recognized for prevention initiatives to improve smoking cessation, weight management and exercise.

Tar Heel of the Week: Meg Molloy

The Raleigh, N.C. News & Observer ran a "Tar Heel of the Week" feature every Sunday since January 19, 1950. For her visionary prevention work, Meg Molloy was named Tar Heel of the week on February 2, 2003.

North Carolina Public Health Association

The North Carolina Public Health Association recognized Prevention Partners with its Partners in Public Health Distinguished Group Award for significant contributions to public health in North Carolina. Board Chair Peg O’Connell was also honored with NCPHA’s Distinguished Service Award. (Awarded in 2000)

ASSIST Award for Cancer Prevention in North Carolina

NC Prevention Partners was given an award in recognition and appreciation for outstanding resourcefulness and leadership in implementing the American Stop Smoking Intervention Study (ASSIST) for Cancer Prevention in North Carolina. (Awarded in 2000)
